rob rawcliffe

The Board of Education shall maintain a continuing public information program, in order to promote widespread understanding of the school program, and to gain the support and participation of the community in the school system.

In addition to encouraging members of the community to attend and participate at public Board meetings, the Superintendent of Schools shall develop a program aimed at disseminating Board policies and District educational programs to the public. Through the use of meetings, news releases, distributed notices, and other means deemed appropriate, the citizens of the School District shall be kept informed concerning the plans and activities of the school. A newsletter shall be published and mailed to each home in the District. All publications shall be partisan as their purpose is to inform the public.

The Superintendent should coordinate the activities of District administrators to ensure their direct involvement in the public information program. The Superintendent or designee shall approve all formal news releases regarding pupils, classes or school activities. Each school, through its faculty and staff, should participate not only with the dissemination of information to the public, but also with the planning of events and social programs aimed at getting the community involved in School District activities.

News Media Relations

The Board of Education invites and welcomes the active participation of all forms of mass media in promoting the cause of good education within the District and elsewhere. The Board encourages suggestions and advice from representatives of the media as to how best to facilitate the flow of information to them from the Board and others within the school system.

All staff desiring to release information to the media should first notify the Building Principal. The Superintendent of Schools shall establish all necessary procedures to govern day-to-day interactions between the schools and the news media.
